My name is Dave Bryant and I am the author, maintainer, and sometimes philosopher of this website. I have strong interests in theology, politics, and software development, and so my various ramblings on these subjects can be found here. The Story So Far...
I was born in Wellington, New Zealand, and went to school there, before moving to Palmerston North to attend Massey University, where I completed a BE (Hons) in Computer Systems Engineering. While studying there, I worked part time for the church (All Saints), and for a local software company called Olson Software, helping turn their help authoring tool into a multi-user product.
During that time I was heavily involved with Alpha, and ran several Alpha courses on campus at Massey. Additionally I somehow found some time to study part-time at Bible College as well.
After completing my degree, I moved to Auckland to start work for a company called Orion Health, initially as a software developer (2001-2002), then a senior developer (2002-2003), then a development team lead (2003-2005), and then the program manager (2005-2006) for the Rhapsody line of business. I now work in a hybrid Senior Developer / Product Planner role based in Brisbane, Australia.
I married my wonderful wife Tina in April 2005, and we moved to Brisbane in January 2007.
Political Interests
In New Zealand politics, I have previously been a member of ACT New Zealand, a political party on the centre-right of the political spectrum in New Zealand, but occasionally swing to supporting the National Party instead. In Australia I support the Liberals, but don't have the right to vote, being a New Zealand citizen. I could probably be classified as close to a classical liberal, in favour of limited government, individual rights, free markets, etc. On the political compass test, I score +6 (right) on econmic issues, and -2 (libertarian) on authoritarian/libertarian issues. For comparison you can find NZ politicians here.
Theological Position
I would classify myself as a charismatic evangelical and fairly conservative (as opposed to liberal) on most theological positions. I have been a member of several anglican churches, a pentecostal church, and now a baptist church, but all have had in common a central belief in the authority of the bible, and the reality of God's relationship with us now. You can probably guess my position on many other matters by ready the various articles on this site.
I have a strong interest in theology, having studied a number of bible college papers, and read a range of theological books and papers. I enjoy leading bible studies that lead people to challenge their positions, and have lead a number of seminars on apologetics, particularly at Summer Wine.
Sporting Interests
I am a big fan of Cricket and Rugby, and also enjoy watching American Football when it's on at a sensible time in New Zealand.
For Cricket I support the Black Caps but will probably change allegiance to Australia shortly (well they do tend to win games...).
For Rugby, I support the Hurricanes, followed by the Blues, followed by the other New Zealand teams in the Super 12/14, the All Blacks internationally (followed by any team playing Australia or England), and Wellington followed by Auckland in the NPC.
But you're so wrong, how can I let you know?
Ah yes, for this purpose commenting is enabled on practically every post, so feel free to add your comments whether you agree with me or not. I am not one to shy from controversy and will happily engage in any interesting debate. Otherwise you can contact me directly.

Hey Dave,
I love reading other people blogs, especially when they give such an upfront view of who they are and why they write what they do. Here is an online Hermeneutics Quiz by Scot McKnight that was interesting in understanding more of who we are. Thought you might be interested. Love your website.
