Brash on immigration
NZ Politics

The NZ Herald reports that Brash will use tonight's Orewa speech to talk a bit about immigration, noting that it can be beneficial to New Zealand, but has the potential to undermine western values central to our society.

I very much doubt that he will be taking a much tougher stance on the issue (as stated in the Herald article title, but not the text), but will more be trying to open up some of it for debate.

For the last few years immigration policy hasn't really been debated that well. Generally Peters will start screaming about how inadequate it is (sometimes with justification, sometimes he just makes it up), resulting in a knee-jerk reaction from the government.

We really need some intelligent debate on the subject, and some consistent rules that don't radically change from year to year (and no more lying in unison).
