Large cellphone bills for Ministers
NZ Politics

The Herald reports this morning that a number of Cabinet Ministers have racked up very large cell phone bills over the past year, with Chris Carter topping the list with a bill of $12,848, just in front of the Prime Minister with $12,103. Annette King came in a distant third at $6996.

Although the bill seems rather large, I can't say that it greatly concerns me though, for several reasons. Firstly, the total cell phone bill is definately on the low scale of government spending (just under $100k compared with millions wasted on various other projects), and secondly, Chris Carter is looking at ways to reduce it.

But most importantly, I would rather the government communicated effectively internally, and had fairly open lines of communication with the media, and skimping on cell phone bills could easily cost as much in the resulting miscommunication.
