The new laptop

I had a bit of a rant on Friday when my new Dell laptop arrived, but the hard drive was faulty, and I spent several hours on the phone waiting in their priority queues before talking to incompetent technicians.

Well, the engineer arrived today and was very much a professional. He had a new hard drive available, and had it installed and tested within about 5 minutes, and very much knew what he was doing.

I remarked to him about how ironic it was that it took me hours to get through to their support desk and report the problem, but so little time to fix. He said that the only Dell support desk was in Malaysia (for worldwide support), and that he is unable to get through to them sometimes as well.

So, Dell appears to have good hardware, but beware if you have problems with it as it is a real hassle to get it resolved.
