John Armstrsong on Benson-Pope
NZ Politics

John Armstrong has written a great column today about David Benson-Pope, concluding that he is dead meat: The Prime Minister now has little option but to cut her losses and sack David Benson-Pope.

The principal of Bayfield High School has now confirmed that a complaint was received about Benson-Pope, it was investigated, and changes were made to school policy as a result of it. It is incredible that Benson-Pope himself did not know about this.

Yet he claimed over the weekend that the new allegations were 'nonsense', and more seriously said to Parliament in May last year:

I am quite happy to confirm, and repeat, my statement earlier that I have not been guilty of, or involved in, any inappropriate behaviour in my 24 years as a secondary school teacher. As well, I am not aware of any complaint of any kind.

He claimed not to be aware of any complaint - I think this is definately misleading the House. Rodney Hide has raised a new privilege complaint, and I don't see how the Speaker can justifiably reject it (although I wouldn't be too surprised if she finds a way).

Regardless, he has no more credibility and should immediately resign as both an MP and a Minister.
