They quote the chairman of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child, Jaap Doek, as saying that this is a test of whether New Zealand respects children as people with rights.
Umm, right....
Basically he is equating a light smacking, done in a loving manner to teach a child, as the same as child abuse. Of course if you do equate those, his conclusion is justified. I of course dispute his assumption. Lightly smacking with an open hand to discipline a child, when no damage whatsoever is caused, is not at all the same as beating a child.
New Zealanders are of course appalled whenever we hear of child abuse and want the perpetrators punished. Smacking is not equivalent to that, and I find the claim that because I support smacking, I do not support childrens' rights offensive.[pP]>Office standard key gen
