An overseas junket
NZ Politics

Four MPs from the Finance and Expenditure Committee have gone to the Cook Islands to advise them on scrutinising government expediture. This involves 3 days of workshops, followed by one day of "hospitality" (i.e. getting drunk at government expense).

The MPs going are chairman Shayne Jones (Labour), Hone Harawira (Maori), Doug Woolerton (NZ First), and Murray McCully (National). McCully isn't actually a member of the committee, but has been a senior member of it previously.

The most interesting one is Hone Harawira - he has only been an MP since October, and hasn't had an opportunity to scrutinise the financial estimates as yet, so I don't see what he is going to bring to this trip other than a party atmosphere...
