$11 million on landscaping at new prisons
NZ Politics

The NZ Herald reports that the Deparment of Corrections has spent $11 million on landscaping at 4 new prisons. This seems ridiculously extravagant to me. No wonder we can't afford more prisons if this amount of money is being wasted simply to plant trees and shrubs to make the prisons nicer.

At the very least they should get the prisoners to do this work themselves - that would at least save all the labour costs.

I definitely think that it is time for a full select committee enquiry. The swing vote on the law and order select committee is New Zealand First MP Ron Mark - it's time he voted for an enquiry.
