Party hopping bill may not have the numbers
NZ Politics

It appears as though the contraversial anti party-hopping bill lacks sufficient support to become law. The previous law had a sunset clause that expired at the last election, but New Zealand First made renewing it part of their confidence and supply agreement with Labour.Animals - X-Mode midi

However, it looks like only Labour, New Zealand First, and the Progressive parties support this (58 votes). United Future says it will only support it if it is ammended so that only list MPs are affected by it. The National, ACT, and Green parties are all opposed, and the Maori Party voted against it at the first reading, and stated that they were unlikely to change their position.Animals - X-Mode midi

It would be great if this were dropped, particularly as there are rumours Labour may want the bill to help get rid of some of its older MPs before the next election. I would prefer it wasn't passed, but United Future's ammendment would at least make it much better than it is currently.Animals - X-Mode midi

I think applying the Bill only to list MPs could be a sensible compromise, after all it would make the Bill actually workable… Animals - X-Mode midi
