Senate Majority Leader Bill First has come out in favour of the FBI raid of Congressman Jefferson's offices at the Capitol, saying that "nobody in government should be above the law, period". This is in contrast with the Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert who has been asserting the privileges of Congress.
This is fairly interesting, but may be partially because Senator Frist is rumoured to be standing down from the Senate later this week, to consider a bid for the presidency in 2008. While I'll agree that no-one should be above the law, I do think that additional procedures are necessary to prevent the executive dominanting the legislature.
