Senate rejects FMA

The US Senate has today rejected the Federal Marriage Ammendment, that would ban same-sex marriage in the United States. The vote was for cloture on the dabate, so that an up-or-down vote could take place shortly afterwards, and failed by 49-48 (60 votes are required for cloture).

Apparently the Republican leadership in Congress is going to try to keep the issue alive, by forcing a vote in the House in mid July. But as I said before, I still don't see how a few defeated votes now helps their case in November.
