Jim Anderton has made some crazy remarks about Bush's decision to temporarily increase the number of troops in Iraq.[pP]>word 2002 enterprise key
Both Clark and Peters have immediately weighed in claiming that Anderton was speaking as leader of the Progressive Party, not as a government spokesperson. Of course, he is the duty minister at present, and was asked in that capacity for comments.[pP]>word 2002 enterprise key
He remarks are simply crazy. Regardless of whether or not they are accurate (and I do not accept that they are), it is really bad diplomacy. There is no way that the US will change its mind on the issue due to Anderton's comments, and such remarks simply inflame US-NZ relations further. The level of anti-American rhetoric that comes out of our government on a regular basis is definitely part of the reason we are unlikely to get a free trade agreement with them in the near future. Fortunately in this case, both our Prime Minister and Foreign Minister have stepped in quickly.[pP]>word 2002 enterprise key
