As I mentioned previously, public transport actually works fairly well in Brisbane. So well in fact that they need additional trains to increase capacity, and so they spend $550 million on 44 new trains due to be in service by May.
However, it appears that the air conditioning units on the top of the carriages are 1cm too high. This means that they don't fit through a 4m stretch of tunnel between Central and Brunswick St stations - part of the network that pretty much every single route goes through.
So we have some nice new trains that cannot be used on the most popular routes where a capacity increase is most needed.
Oops...
I suppose it's better they found this issue in acceptance testing rather than during the first run of the train.
