Uproar in the Queensland Parliament
Australian Politics

There was uproar in the Queensland Parliament yesterday as the last few days of tumult descended even further. The last days have seen 4 dissent motions against the Speaker, who is accused of bias, a no-confidence motion in the Attorney-General, and a censure motion against an opposition MP, Rob Messenger.bajar P2k Driver 2.1

During debate on Wednesday evening, Rob Messenger compared Premier Peter Beattie to a prostitute and "one of the most disgusting and contemptuous (sic) people to have ever drawn breath in Queensland".bajar P2k Driver 2.1

Yesterday morning, Peter Beattie demanded an apology. This is what Rob Messenger then had to say:bajar P2k Driver 2.1

I have had this morning to think about my comments and reflect on my behaviour. I have decided that the Premier is right. My comments were unparliamentary and I should apologise. So I wholeheartedly and sincerely apologise to the prostitutes of Queensland.

At that point the House went into uproar and censured Mr Messenger.bajar P2k Driver 2.1

The Courier-Mail has helpfully pointed out that for 4 hours over the last few days, MPs were collectively paid $6000 per hour just to hurl insults at each other.bajar P2k Driver 2.1
